Hungary's Istvan Peni set a new European record on his way to the men's 50m rifle 3 positions gold medal at the 2025 European Shooting Championships in Chateauroux, France.
Peni, who won the season opener in the ISSF World Cup in this event this year, finished with a new best of 467.1 to better the mark of 466.1 made by Czech athlete Jiri Privratsky at the 2023 ISSF World Cup in Baku. The Hungarian excelled in the standing section to pull away from France's silver medallist Lucas Kryzs who finished with a total of 464.9. Marko Ivanovic of Serbia would beat Norwegian Jon-Hermann Hegg to the bronze medal.
In the women's 50m rifle 3 positions final, Rikke Ibsen from Denmark won the gold medal, with a total of 462.6, following a dramatic last shot showdown with Jeanette Hegg Duestad of Norway. Duestad had a comfortable lead of 1.4 going into the last shot, but would score 8.0 while Ibsen scored a perfect 10.9 to claim the gold medal. Duestad finished with 461.1. Agathe Girard from France won the bronze medal, beating the Olympic champion Chiara Leone to the podium.
Florian Peter from Germany and Miroslava Mincheva from Bulgaria took the men's 25m rapid fire pistol and women's 25m pistol titles too.
Peter equalled the European record with a score of 35, following a close contest with French duo Clement Bessaguet and Jean Quiquampoix. Bessaguet would miss once in his last five shots, which would be the difference between gold and silver, as he finished with a total of 34. Quiquampoix won the bronze.
Mincheva scored 36 in the women's 25m pistol final, winning by two shots over Sylvia Steiner of Austria. It was another great moment for Bulgaria as Mincheva's compatriot Antoaneta Kostadinova beat Agate Rasmane of Latvia and Doreen Vennekamp of Germany for the bronze medal.
