Lucie Anastassiou had a memorable return to Chateauroux, France at the European Shooting Championships, as she won the gold medal in the women's skeet final.
Having narrowly missed the last two Olympic finals, she claimed her second continental title, eight years on from her win in Baku. This time, she pipped Olympic silver medallist Amber Rutter from Great Britain to the gold, 55-54.
The French athlete sat one behind the Briton with six shots left to go, after a miss on target 54 of 60. However a miss on the following target for Rutter brought them level, followed by another miss on her final target - denying a shoot-off and confirming Anastassiou as the champion. Germany's Valentina Umhoefer won her first medal by edging out Simona Scocchetti of Italy.
British athlete Ben Llewellin would take the men's skeet title in another close contest. A miss from Italian Tammaro Cassandro on his 57th target meant Llewellin would take his first individual continental gold, with the top two finishing on 56 and 55 respectively. Joining them on the podium was Ukraine's Mikola Milchev, the Sydney 2000 Olympic champion, who won his second European medal 26 years after his first, at the age of 57.
Kathrin Murche from Germany won the gold medal in the women's trap final. She remained consistent at the end to pull away from silver and bronze medallists Czechia's Zuzana Rehak Stefecekova and Spain's Fatima Galvez for the win.
Finally, the pair of Slovakia's Erik Varga and Zuzana Rehak Stefecekova won a shoot-off for the mixed team trap gold following a 41-41 draw with Alberto Fernandez and Fatima Galvez of Spain. Slovakia won the shoot-off 2-0. The bronze medal went to France's Antonin Desert and Carole Cormenier who defeated British duo Nathan Hales and Ellie Seward by a score of 46-45.
