ISSF President Luciano Rossi and Secretary General Alessandro Nicotra di San Giacomo travelled to the IOC headquarters in Lausanne on 2 October for their first private meeting with recently elected IOC President Kirsty Coventry, as well as to hold separate discussions with IOC Sports Director Pierre Ducrey.
The discussions focused on the ongoing development and professionalisation of ISSF, both in terms of governance and the sport product, with special attention paid to the work being done, to make sure that the presentation of shooting sport is more engaging and entertaining by the time of the next summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles. The ISSF leadership reaffirmed ISSF’s strong support for Ms Coventry’s current consultation process which aims to make the Olympic movement even more relevant to stakeholders, but particularly young people as athletes and fans.
President Rossi expressed the ISSF’s strong support for key IOC initiatives, including efforts related to athlete wellbeing, gender equality, and sustainability and especially to efforts to make the Olympic Games’ organisation as cost effective and efficient as possible.
President Rossi said: “I am extremely grateful, on behalf of ISSF, to have the opportunity to meet and discuss in a very friendly and open way, topics that are of particular importance to shooting sport, including our place and role in the Olympic movement. I was very impressed by the friendly way the IOC President engaged with us, and how committed she is to listen to what Olympic stakeholders have to say. The meeting certainly reaffirmed ISSF’s alignment with Olympic values and its willingness to collaborate closely with the IOC on these priorities.”
