In an important moment for the sporting world to have their voice heard, International Shooting Sport Federation Secretary General, Alessandro Nicotra di San Giacomo attended the International Olympic Committee's IF Consultation Meeting in Lausanne.
An event formed to discuss the vision of IOC President Kirsty Coventry took place at Olympic House, featuring five key topics delivered by IOC members: Athletes; Olympic Games; Reach, Engagement and Revenue Generation; Olympic Movement; and Better World. Opening and closing remarks were also made by the President.
On the topic of athletes, discussion surrounded the Olympic cycle, the female category, clean sport, career transition and athletes' representation and engagement. The likes of mental health, Olympic Solidarity expansion and partnering with commercial partners to support career pathways were discussed in this section.
The Olympic Games topic focused on making events more dynamic, the integration between the Olympic and Paralympic Games, as well as making International Federations more involved in the delivery of the Games to support athletes and utilise them as expert delivery partners.
Ties look to be strengthened in engagement between the IOC and International Federations too with a pooled rights model to be explored between them, while collaboration is to be encouraged between IFs and Olympic partners.
It is expected that shared codes will be created to professionalise governance across the IFs and their Member Federations. Increasing sustainability efforts remains a priority, while there is discussion of reforming the revenue distribution model.
The final topic focused on IOC initiatives include Olympic Solidarity, but also suggested ways to improve accessibility for women and girls, including through inclusive practices and safeguarding. Other measures considered include expanding the IOC Refugee Team to support those looking to work as administrators and officials too.
Following the conclusion of the meeting, Mr. Nicotra di San Giacomo said: "We recognise the significant potential and are pleased with this new approach from President Coventry, characterised by active listening to all federations.
"By fostering a sense of inclusivity and collaboration, we feel part of an important community and are motivated to contribute to her success."
