China's Yao Qianxun won her second title of the 2025 ISSF World Championship Rifle/Pistol in Cairo, Egypt, claiming gold in the women's 25m standard pistol.

Sevval Ilayda Tarhan of Turkey and Hungary's Veronika Major joined her on the podium. Switzerland's Adrian Schaub took gold in the men's 25m standard pistol, ahead of Republic of Korea's Cho Yeong-jae and Pavlo Korostylov from Ukraine.
Women's 25m Standard Pistol

Following her victory in the women's 10m air pistol and her silver in the 25m pistol, Yao Qianxun came into the 25m standard pistol event full of confidence. They started strongly with a total of 199 from 200 in the 150-second stage - a score only matched by Sevval Ilayda Tarhan. They were followed by Austria's Sylvia Steiner on 195 and Azerbaijan's Nigar Nasirova on 194.

Moving down to the 20-second stage, Yao put distance between her and the Turkish athlete, outscoring her 190-185. Chen Jia made it a one-two for China after backing her opening 192 with a best stage score of 194. Veronika Major was in fifth, now one point behind Tarhan and Steiner.

Going into the final 10-second stage, Yao had a three-shot lead over Chen, and a total of 181 would be enough to win the gold medal on 570. Tarhan would score 185 again, one of the highest scores in this stage, to move back into the silver medal position - finishing one shy of the winner on 569. Veronika Major scored 183, securing the bronze on 566, one ahead of China's Sun Yujie, who had the best stage score of 188. Steiner would finish fifth, while Chen's 172 would drop her far out of medal contention, placing eighth.

Yao, Sun and Chen would nonetheless break the world record in the team event, finishing with 1693 from a possible 1800. Far adrift in silver were Major, Sara Fabian and Renata Sike of Hungary, beating Turkey's Tarhan, Simal Yilmaz and Esra Bozabali on perfect shots after the pair were tied on 1659, one ahead of India.
Men's 25m Standard Pistol

Consistency was key for Adrian Schaub in the men's event, scoring three scores over 190 in a tight battle for the title. However, he sat outside the top 10 after the 150-second stage when he scored 192. It was Austria's Richard Zechmeister and Emils Vasermanis of Latvia that set the early pace on 196, followed by the latter's compatriot Ernests Erbs, Peeter Olesk of Estonia and Gurpreet Singh from India on 195.

But all of these leaders, minus Olesk, would score below 190 in the 20-second stage. Zechmeister and Singh now needed something big to contend for a medal, with both behind Erbs. Meanwhile, Olesk now had a score of 388 - putting him top of the standings. His closest challengers were now Cho Yeong-jae and Pavlo Korostylov, who had matched each other with scores of 194 and 192. Czechia's Matej Rampula was fourth on 385, followed by Erbs. A consistent score of 191 from the Swiss Schaub moved him into the top 10, but five away from the top.

It would fall apart for the Estonian in the 10-second stage, scoring just 180, which dropped them from first to 16th. Erbs' hopes of a medal faltered with his score of 185, finishing 13th.

The Republic of Korea would win the team gold medal thanks to the work of Cho, Lee Gun-hyeok and Park Jeong-yi, combining for 1711. China's Su Lianbofan, He Shiyu and Ni Zhixin claimed silver by one point, ahead of Kazakhstan's Nikita Chiryukin, Kirill Fedkin and Artemiy Kabakov on 1700 and 1699 respectively.
