Poland's Tomasz Bartnik delivered a performance to remember to become the gold medallist in the men's 300m rifle 3 positions, equalling the world record at the 2025 ISSF World Championship Rifle/Pistol in Cairo, Egypt.

Bartnik defeated the world record holder Peter Sidi from Romania and Pascal Bachmann of Switzerland to win the title. In the women's event, Katrine Lund led a Norwegian one-two with Jeanette Hegg Duestad, closely followed by Marta Szabo Bouza of Switzerland in third.
Men's 300m Rifle 3 Positions

Tomasz Bartnik, the 2018 50m rifle 3 positions world champion, started strong on his quest to win gold in this discipline for the first time. His kneeling section delivered a total of 199, as he looked to improve on his silver in Baku from two years ago.

It set him in good stead as no one was able to match him. One shot behind was the 50m rifle 3 positions gold medallist Alexander Schmirl of Austria on 198, followed by Finland's Aleksi Leppa, Max Ohlenburger of Germany, Robert Markoja from Slovenia and Sweden's Karl Olsson.

The prone section saw three perfect scores - Schmirl would top on 398 with the Pole, who had scored 198; now on 397. The world record holder Peter Sidi and Czechia's Jiri Privratsky had brought themselves back into contention with 200 scores too. The top two were followed by Privratsky who was one behind Bartnik. Leppa, Markoja and Ohlenburger's 198 scores had them in joint-fourth with Sidi on 395, alongside the Swiss pair of Gilles Vincent Dufaux and Pascal Bachmann who recorded a total of 199 on their prone.

But Schmirl would not add to his title in the 50m distance, scoring 191 on his standing section, which saw him drop to fourth. The Austrian was not the only one undone by the standing shooting, as Privratsky, Leppa, Ohlenburger and Dufaux all scored 192 and Markoja, 191.

On the other hand, three athletes excelled - and it won them the medals. Bartnik's score of 197 would equal the world record of 594 set by Sidi at this year's European Championships. The Romanian scored 591 for the silver medal, while Bachmann was tied on 589 with Schmirl, but took the bronze after hitting the middle 25 times to the Austrian's 22.

The team gold would go to Bachmann, Dufaux and Sandro Greuter of Switzerland on 1762. Austria's Schmirl, Bernhard Pickl and Dominic Einwaller took silver on 1750 and Poland's Bartnik, Maciej Kowalewicz and Wiktor Sajdak were bronze medallists, one ahead of Czechia on 1746.
Women's 300m Rifle 3 Positions

Following her victory in the 50m rifle 3 positions final, Jeanette Hegg Duestad looked to win her second title in the 300m distance, after first winning it in Cairo three years ago.

She started strong with the best kneeling section, scoring 199, followed by her compatriot Katrine Lund on 198. The pair sat comfortably ahead of the rest, with Veronique Muenster of Germany sitting alone in third on 196 and five athletes on 195, including Marta Szabo Bouza and Agathe Girard of France.

Muenster would score a perfect 200 in the prone to move into second place on 396, one behind Lund who scored 199. Two behind the German was the third Norwegian Jenny Vatne, who also scored 200 in the prone, on 394. Duestad's 194 dropped her down to four behind her teammate going into the standing section.

Lund would hold her nerve against Muenster, scoring 191 - a solid score that would see her finish on 588. Duestad finished strong on 194 to end on a total of 587, one ahead of the bronze medallist, Szabo. Girard and the consistent Karolina Romanczyk of Poland completed the top five. Vatne would drop to seventh after scoring 189, while Muenster fell down to 11th after scoring 184 in her last section.
