Asian Shotgun Championship sees skeet victories for Sadakbayeva and Al-Daihani

Kazakhstan's Adel Sadakbayeva and Kuwait's Mohammad Al-Daihani claimed the women's and men's skeet gold medals following the opening days of the ongoing 2026 Asian Shotgun Championship in Doha, Qatar.

Qualifying fourth to make the women's final, Sadakbayeva pushed to the front with her teammate Olga Khailova and Reem Ghanem A H Al-Sharshani of Qatar, who would make it onto the podium. 

Khailova would be the first of them to be eliminated, taking the bronze. Sadakbayeva would hold on for the gold medal with a total of 33, two ahead of the silver medallist, Al-Sharshani.

Qatar would win the women's team medal by just two points as Al-Sharshani, Sarah Ghulam A A Mohammed and Hajar Ghulam Mohammed combined for a score of 279, with Sadakbayeva, Khailova and top qualifier Assem Orynbay winning the silver on 277. China's Li Wenyi, Huang Jingyi and Bi Aoyu won the bronze with 260.

The hosts would also win the men's team event, in an incredibly close fight for the gold, which saw the top three separated by four points. Rashid Saleh M J Al-Athba, Ali Ahmed A O Al-Ishaq and Mohamed Ahmed Al-Kuwari scoring a total of 284.

Kuwait were two behind on 282 thanks to the work of Mohammad Al-Daihani, Abdullah Al-Rashidi and Abdulaziz Al-Saad, with Kazakhstan's Eduard Yechshenko, Ilya Penkov and Ratmir Yenikeyev scoring 280 for bronze.

And the individual title would go to Kuwait's Mohammad Al-Daihani following an exciting shoot-off with Eduard Yechshenko of Kazakhstan after the pair were tied on 33. Al-Daihani would score three to the Kazakh's two, to take the crown. The bronze medal went to Republic of Korea's Hwang Jung-soo.

Rashid Saleh M J Al-Athba and Reem Ghanem A H Al-Sharshani won the mixed team skeet event, setting a new world record in the first event of its kind to be held under this format. The pair, who finished third in qualification scored 47 in the final, holding off Hwang Jung-soo and Jang Kook-hee of the Republic of Korea on 45. 

The bronze medal went to Eduard Yechshenko and Assem Orynbay of Kazakhstan, ahead of China's Zhang Yukun and Li Wenyi.

In junior competition, Qatar's Meteb Ali S A Al-Marri won the junior men's skeet gold medal after qualifying in fourth place. He won by one shot with a total of 32 to Maxim Pochivalov's 31. Pochivalov's compatriot Vladislav Zavodilenko won the bronze medal ahead of a third teammate Artyom Revkov.

The trio dominated in the team event, winning gold with a score of 340, with Qatar finishing second on 304 and Kuwait third on 266.
