The President of the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF), Luciano Rossi, together with ISSF Secretary General Alessandro Nicotra di San Giacomo, attended the Opening Ceremony of the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games, joining representatives of the Olympic Movement and international sport leaders in celebrating the official start of the Games. The ceremony marked a significant moment for global sport, highlighting unity, excellence and the shared values that connect athletes and federations worldwide.
During the ceremony, IOC President Kirsty Coventry addressed athletes and spectators, underlining the spirit of the Olympic Games and their wider meaning beyond sport. “The spirit of the Olympic Games is about so much more than sport. It is about us – and what makes us human,” she said, encouraging athletes to inspire the world through courage, respect and friendship.
“The Opening Ceremony was an emotional moment that once again demonstrates the power of sport to unite people and nations,” said ISSF President Luciano Rossi. “The Olympic Games remain the highest expression of sporting values, and ISSF is proud to be part of the Olympic Movement and its future.”
ISSF Secretary General Alessandro Nicotra di San Giacomo added: “Congratulations to mr. Giovanni Malagò and to all the Italian organisers who have created something truly unique. The passion, professionalism and vision shown here in delivering these Games reflect the very best of the Olympic spirit.”
Earlier in the day, President Rossi visited Casa Italia at the Triennale Milano, a central meeting point for Italian sport, institutions and international guests throughout the Games.
The visit provided an opportunity to engage with representatives of the Italian sporting community and to reinforce the strong ties between shooting sport and the broader Olympic family.
