The European Olympic Committees (EOC) Executive Committee has officially announced the sports programme for the European Games Istanbul 2027, confirming shooting as one of the key disciplines on the road to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. The Games are scheduled for June 16–27, 2027, in Istanbul, Turkiye.
The programme, approved on 13 March, has been developed in close cooperation with the Istanbul 2027 Organising Committee and the respective International and European Federations, reinforcing the strategic importance of the European Games within the Olympic pathway.
Shooting on the Road to LA28
As part of a total of 26 sports, including 22 Olympic disciplines aligned with the LA28 programme, shooting will once again provide athletes with a high-level competitive platform in Europe.
The European Games are expected to offer important Olympic qualification opportunities, either through direct quota places or through the Olympic ranking system, underlining their growing relevance for elite shooters preparing for Los Angeles 2028.
For the shooting sport community, the inclusion of the discipline confirms its continued integration within major multi-sport events, alongside the strongest Olympic sports.
A key platform for Europe’s top shooters
The European Games have increasingly positioned themselves as a major milestone in the international calendar, bringing together Europe’s best athletes in a multi-sport environment that mirrors the Olympic Games.
With the programme still subject to final agreements with the respective federations, shooting’s presence in Istanbul 2027 highlights the sport’s strong standing within the Olympic Movement, its contribution to qualification pathways, and its appeal in a multi-sport, broadcast-driven environment.
