The road to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games is set to begin later this year, with the ISSF World Championship Rifle/Pistol/Shotgun in Doha, Qatar, serving as the first Olympic qualification event for shooting sport athletes.

The qualification system for LA28 has been confirmed, outlining how the world's best athletes will secure their places for the Olympic Games, which will take place from 14–30 July 2028. A total of 340 athlete quota places will be available, maintaining full gender equality with 170 places for men and 170 for women.

The LA28 shooting programme will feature 15 medal events: six men's events, six women's events and three mixed team events. The programme includes 10m Air Rifle, 50m Rifle 3 Positions, 10m Air Pistol, 25m Rapid Fire Pistol Men, 25m Pistol Women, Trap, Skeet and the three mixed team competitions in Air Rifle, Air Pistol and Trap.

The first Olympic quotas will be awarded at the ISSF World Championship Rifle/Pistol/Shotgun in Doha, scheduled for 1–14 November 2026. The championship will distribute 36 quota places, with three quota places available in each of the 12 individual Olympic events, making it the single largest qualification opportunity of the entire cycle.

Following Doha, athletes will continue their pursuit of Olympic qualification through the 2027 ISSF World Championships in Daegu, Republic of Korea, and Cairo, Egypt, as well as selected ISSF World Cups and continental championships across all five continents. Additional quota places will also be allocated through the Olympic Ranking system, which will be published at the conclusion of the qualification period on 1 May 2028.

The qualification period officially runs until 1 May 2028. Athletes must also achieve the required Minimum Qualification Score (MQS) within the qualification window to be eligible for Olympic participation.

Under the qualification rules, National Olympic Committees may enter a maximum of two athletes per individual event and up to two mixed teams per mixed team event. The maximum team size per NOC is 24 athletes.
