In the 10m Air Rifle Mixed Team, 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team and Trap Mixed Team competitions, the top four teams from qualification will advance directly to a single medal final.
Unlike previous Olympic formats, which featured separate gold medal and bronze medal matches, all four teams will compete simultaneously from the start of the final. The revised format is designed to create a more dynamic and streamlined competition while ensuring that all medal contenders remain engaged throughout the contest.
The change follows extensive testing at ISSF competitions and feedback from athletes, coaches, officials and broadcasters. By bringing all medal contenders together in one final, the format aims to increase competitive intensity and create a clearer narrative for spectators following the event.
The new structure will make its Olympic debut at LA28, where shooting sport will feature 15 medal events across rifle, pistol and shotgun disciplines.
