More athletes to compete in Olympic finals at LA28

Under the approved formats, the 25m Rapid Fire Pistol Men final will expand from six to eight athletes. The change brings the event into line with most other Olympic shooting sport disciplines, which already feature eight-athlete finals.

Shotgun events will also see an increase in finalist numbers. The Trap Men, Trap Women, Skeet Men and Skeet Women competitions will all feature eight finalists at LA28, compared with six at previous Olympic Games.

The expansion follows testing at ISSF competitions and aims to provide more athletes with the opportunity to compete on the Olympic stage while maintaining the high level of performance required to reach the finals.

Despite the increase in finalist numbers, the events will continue to feature progressive elimination stages, ensuring that medal positions are determined through direct competition under pressure.

The updated formats form part of the ISSF's ongoing efforts to enhance competition presentation and athlete experience while preserving the sporting integrity and traditions of Olympic shooting sport.
