The journey to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games is taking shape, with the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) confirming the first competitions that will award Olympic quota places for LA28.
Beginning with the ISSF World Championship Rifle/Pistol/Shotgun in Doha, Qatar, in November 2026, athletes from around the world will compete not only for international titles but also for the opportunity to secure their nations' places at the Olympic Games.
The qualification pathway spans more than a year, combining ISSF World Championships and World Cups with Continental Championships and major multi-sport events across all five continents. This structure ensures athletes have multiple opportunities to earn quota places while promoting balanced continental representation on the road to Los Angeles.

With World Cups, Continental Championships and World Championships spread across Europe, Asia, Africa, Oceania and the Americas, the qualification calendar reflects the truly global nature of shooting sport. Athletes will face a demanding schedule as they compete for the opportunity to represent their National Olympic Committees at LA28.
The qualification process also highlights the importance of the ISSF World Cup circuit, which continues to provide athletes with regular opportunities to compete against the world's best while pursuing Olympic qualification.
The ISSF reminds Member Federations that the qualification calendar is not yet finalised. Additional competitions may be included in the qualification pathway, and further updates will be communicated as soon as they are confirmed.
With the first Olympic quota places set to be awarded in Doha this November, the race to Los Angeles 2028 is ready to begin.
