Today marks 50 days to go until the world's leading rifle, pistol and shotgun athletes gather in Doha, Qatar, for the ISSF World Championship Rifle/Pistol/Shotgun, taking place from 1 to 14 November 2026.
The championships will be about much more than world titles. Doha will mark the beginning of the Road to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, with the first Olympic quota places in shooting sport to be awarded during the competition.
The first Olympic quotas are at stake
A total of 36 Olympic quota places will be awarded in Doha, with three places available in each of the 12 individual Olympic events. This makes the World Championship the single largest qualification opportunity of the LA28 cycle.
The quota race will continue through 2027 and 2028, with further places available at World Championships, World Cups, Continental Championships and other designated qualification events.
For athletes, therefore, Doha represents the first major opportunity to turn a strong performance into a place for their National Olympic Committee on the road to Los Angeles.
