The first-ever ISSF “A” Coaches Course in India began on 10 October 2026 at Taj Surajkund in Faridabad, bringing together 30 coaches for an advanced programme focused on technical expertise, coaching methodology and high-performance development.

Organised under the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) Education Program in collaboration with the ISSF Academy, the course marks an important step in strengthening coach education in the country. Of the 30 participants, 29 are from India and one is from the United States.

The programme is managed by Dr. Vesa Nissinen, Director of the ISSF Academy, with a faculty of experienced instructors covering both rifle and pistol disciplines. Manoj Kumar leads the rifle instruction, assisted by Prajkta Hosur, while Agi Kassoumi heads the pistol instruction, assisted by Vidya Jadhav.
Investing in the next generation of coaches

The inaugural session was attended by NRAI Secretary General Pawankumar Singh and Dr. Nissinen, alongside the course’s head instructors and assistant instructors. They welcomed the participants and highlighted the importance of advanced coach education in strengthening national coaching systems and supporting the continued development of shooting sport.

Addressing the gathering, Singh underlined the role of qualified coaches in developing athletes, building technical skills and preparing competitors for the highest levels of international competition. He also highlighted the value of continued cooperation between the NRAI, ISSF and ISSF Academy in giving Indian coaches access to international expertise and modern coaching practices.

“Hosting the ISSF A Coaches Course in India for the first time is a historic achievement for Indian shooting. Coaches play a crucial role in shaping athletes, developing technical skills and preparing them to compete at the highest level. As our sport continues to grow, it is equally important that we strengthen our coaching system and provide our coaches with access to the highest standards of international education and expertise,” Singh said.

“I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the ISSF President, the ISSF Secretary General and the ISSF Academy for their support and cooperation in bringing this prestigious course to India.”
Combining theory and practical coaching

The course combines classroom-based learning, technical discussions and practical sessions, giving participants the opportunity to develop their coaching knowledge and skills under the guidance of the ISSF Academy faculty.

By bringing the advanced programme to India for the first time, the NRAI and ISSF Academy are expanding opportunities for coaches to access specialised education and strengthen their ability to support athletes’ long-term development and high-performance ambitions.
