The 49th ISSF World Championship 2006 are opened

On the evening of July 22nd 2006 the 49th ISSF World Championship 2006 took place on the main square in Zagreb, Croatia. Here, more than 2000 of athletes coming from almost 100 countries are waited to compete in the all the events of the shooting sports.

“Good luck to you shooters, I know that you will compete in fair play” said during the opening ceremony the President of the International Olympic committee Dr. Jacques Rogge, who arrived here together with ISSF President Olegario Vázquez Raña. “Our world is in trouble today – he continued – and being assembled here, you athletes are showing us that can be pace in this world!” Received by the highest local authorities, and hosted by the President of the Croatian Republic Stjepan Mesić, the President of the ISSF Mr. Olegario Vázquez Raña intervened at the Ceremony thanking the organizing committee and the ISSF officials, addressing to the athletes the wish of a successful competition in fair play. After the President of the Croatian Republic had declared officially opened the competition, greeting the representatives of the participants countries, the ISSF President Olegario Vázquez Raña awarded Mr. Jacques Rogge with the ISSF Blue Cross, the highest mark of recognition of the International Shooting Sport Federation, underlining the great support given by the same President of the IOC to the shooting sport inside the Olympic movement. The competition will start tomorrow, when we will meet our athletes at the 10 meters air pistol men final.
