In men’s double trap, Russia’s Vitaly Fokeev shot a 140 qualifying score to find himself in a shoot-off just to get into the final. He won that shoot-off and then shot 50 straight to win the World Championship title.

“I can’t even tell you what this means to me. It is hard to put into words,” Fokeev said. Fokeev has been having one of his best seasons yet, winning a gold at the first World Cup of the season, and now, in his fifth World Championships appearance, Fokeev can end on top, as well. “I have been working on my technique and training very hard. It is continuing to pay off,” Fokeev added. China’s Binyuan Hu took the silver medal, while Roland Gerebics, of Hungary won the bronze. Hu went into the final tied for first with a 142, he shot a 47 to finish in second, while his teammate Nan Wang shot a 44 in the final to drop out of medal contention to fifth. Gerebics shot a 45 to end up tied with Great Britain’s Richard Faulds with a 187 total score. Gerebics won the shoot-off 13-12, whereas the USA’s Josh Richmond qualified with a 141 and shot a 44 in the final to finish in sixth with a 185.
