Russia’s Erdzhanik Avetisyan won her third World Championship today in women’s skeet, shooting a 71 qualifying score and a 24 in the final to claim her most recent title. Avetisyan adds this top finish to the titles she won in 1999 and 1994.

“I am very happy,” Avetisyan said. “I took this past year off to have a child, so I wasn’t able to concentrate on shooting as much. But now I am back and have won my third title.” In second place, Italy’s Chiara Cainero shot a 71 qualifying and a 23 in the final for a 94 total score. Slovakia’s Danka Bartekova also finished with a 94, but lost the shoot-off to Cainero 4-3 and took bronze. In fourth place was Italy’s second qualifier in the final, Katiuscia Spada shooting a 93 to end up tied with the USA’s Brandie Neal. Both Spada and Neal had to shoot off just to get into the final, and during their second tie-breaker Spada ended up winning this one 2-1. The USA’s Connie Smotek actually led going into the finals, hitting a 72 qualifying, but finished with a 20 in the final to end up in sixth.
