The current World Champion Lioubov Galkina, 33, from Russia, won today’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions Women final after an exciting fight against the German Sonja Pfeilschifter and the Chinese Wu Liuxi.

We were following today a breathtaking final round of the 50m Rifle 3 Positions Women event: the first three shooters on the start list entered the final qualified within two points, and they acted a great battle for the podium placements going back and forth trough the whole match. The German shooter Sonja Pfeilschifter, who had set an incredible new World Record at the World Cup in Munich this year, started today’s final in first, but in the second part of the match rowed a series of disappointing 9 sliding than down in the placements. While the recent World Championship winner Lioubov Galkina kept shooting a good average jumping in first, Pfeilschifter was overtaken by the Chinese athlete Wu Liuxi, and had to fight against the American Jamie Beyerle just to end up in third. In the mean time, Galkina managed to keep behind the Chinese contender Wu marking an excellent final shot of 10.9 points, going to win Gold all ahead with the final score of 689.7 points. Silver went to the young Wu Liuxi, 21, second with 686.6 points, while a deluded Pfeilschifter grabbed the Bronze four tenths behind. Behind the medallists, Beyerle closed the round in fourth, followed by the second Chinese finalist Wang Chengyi and by the Polish shooter Sylwia Bogacka, today’s sixth. This turned out to be a disappointing match for the current n.1 in the World Rank, the German Barbara Lechner: starting in fourth place not so far from the firsts, she scored more than once under 9 points, and eventually finished in seventh place, preceding the Russian Tatiana Goldobina in eighth.
