The ISSF Rifle and Pistol World Cup in Munich, Germany, comes to an end today, May 23, when 10 out of 10 events are in the books.
753 athletes from 80 countries competed at the 1972 Olympic Shooting Range in Hochbrucke, in the outskirts of Munich, starting from the 18th of May.
The Republic of Korea finished atop of the overall medals standings, with two gold and one bronze medal. France followed in second, with two gold medals (the last one won by Rio 2016 Bronze medalist Alexis Raynaud at today’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions Men event). The Russian Federation, with one gold and two silver, closed the world cup stage in third place.
Two new world records were set during the event: four-time Olympic champion Jin Jongoh scored 230.5 points at the men’s 50m Pistol final; Russia’s Sergey Kamenskiy set a new 10m Air Rifle Men world record of 250.9 points. The same Kamenskiy, a Rio 2016 silver medalist, equaled the qualification world record at today’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions Men event, scoring 1186 points.
Munich was also the stage of three junior records: Pavlo Korostylov set a new 10m Air Pistol Men Junior world record while competing in the seniors’ final on the 22nd of May, while Filip Nepejchal of the Czech Republic set a new junior qualification world record by scoring 1185 points at the 50m Rifle 3 Positions Men’s eliminations, and Anastasiia Galashina of the Russian Federation established the new 10m Air Rifle Women Junior Qualification World Record with 420.6 points.
The ISSF World Cup will now move on to its fifth and last stage, to be held in Gabala, Azerbaijan, on June 6-14.
