WC Cairo closed by Egypt’s Tourism Minister. Italy won the medal standings.

Italy won the medal standings of the 2009 ISSF shotgun World Cup stage in Cairo, Egypt, where the competition was closed by the Skeet Men final followed by Egypt’s Tourism Minister Zoheir Garanah.

Egypt’s Minister of Tourism Zoheir Garanah visited the ISSF World Cup in shotgun in Cairo to follow the last final round, the skeet men event, officially closing the event.

“We are proud to host a shooting competition in Egypt, we are friends of the shooting sport!” said the Minister, Mr. Garanah “The ISSF Shooting World Cup in a prime and successful sport event. The game has been tough and exciting: shooting is a great sport! We are now looking forward to host other shooting competitions here in Cairo.”

Italy won the medal standings:
Italy’s Ennio Falco, a 1996 Atlanta Olympic Champion, won Silver at the Skeet Men event, the last round of this world cup stage, lifting his country on the highest step of the medal standing.

Italy won indeed the overall medal standings of this first shotgun stage of the 2009 ISSF World Cup Series with one Gold and 2 Silver medals, for a total of three medals out of 5 events.

Coming in second, the United Stated of America shot an excellent result with 1 Gold and 2 Bronzes, a remarkable achievement also considering that the US team decided to present here in Cairo a new group of young and talented shooters who had never or seldom competed in world cups before.

Ukraine, San Marino and Slovakia placed tied in third place by securing one Gold medal each.

Next step: 1200 shooters in Munich
There is not much time to rest. The ISSF World Cup Series is now moving to Munich, Germany, where a combined World Cup stage in Rifle, Pistol and Shotgun Olympic events will take place form the 12 through the 21 of May.

The World Cup in Munich will offer a unique chance to test the completely renewed 1972 Olympic Shooting Range, where the ISSF World Championships in all events will be held in 2010. A record-breaking number of 1200 participating athletes is announced to arrive in Munich, an impressive number of shooters that will compete for medals throughout15 ISSF Olympic events.
