4th Intl. Paralympic Clay Target Shooting Grand Prix conducted in Todi (ITA)

52 athletes coming from 9 countries competed at the Tav Umbriaverde-Todi shooting club (Italy), in the 4th International Paralympic Clay Target Grand Prix promoted by the Italian Clay Shooting Federation (FITAV), in the frame of its “Paralympic Project” aiming to promote the inclusion of clay target shooting in the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic program.

The 4th International Para-Clay Target Shooting Gran Prix was held at the TAV Umbria Verde shooting club in Todi, Italy, on the 11th of October, where 52 athletes coming from 9 nations competed in the clay target event organized by the Italian Clay Target Shooting Federation (FITAV)

 

Italy's Giuliano Berlato won the Standing 1 category beating Spain's G. Jorge Montesdeoca in a shoot-off 1 to 0 hits, after they had closed the Gold medal match tied with 12 hits out of 15 targets. The second Italian finalist Giorgio Marrozzini secured the Standing 1 Bronze medal, prevailing on his teammate Felice Angelo Pozzi by 10 to 7 hits in the bronze medal match.

 

It was Derek Precious of Great Britain who won the Standing 2 event, beating Denmark's Kim Nyby with a clear score of 11 to 9 hits. Elio Spadoni of Italy followed them in third place, after beating his teammate Paolo Bortolin 9 to 8 hits in the bronze medal match.

 

New Zeland finished in the spotlights thanks to Anthony Ivan Brogden, who moved atop of the Sitting category scoreboard with 11 hits + 2 hits, outscoring Great Britain's Christ Warner in the Gold medal match. Bronze went to another Italian flag-bearer, Paolo Cirillo, who scored 14 hits in the bronze medal match leaving no chances to his teammate Bruno Busti, fourth with 8 hits.

 

“We're very proud of this Grand Prix and of the experience we're building up,” said the Vice-President of the Italian clay shooting federation (FITAV) Emanuela Croce Bonomi. “Following the acceptance of our project by the IPC, many countries have joined the competition. There's still a lot of work to do, and we hope that more national teams will share our dream in the future.”

 

“We've been supporting this project since the very first stage,” said Mr. Giunio De Sanctis, the Secretary General of the Italian Paralympic Committee. “We would like to congratulate FITAV for the positive results reached so far. Now, the aim is to include clay shooting in the program of the 2020 Paralympic Games.”
