2015 ISSF Shotgun World Championship officially opened in Lonato, Italy

800 athletes from 92 countries will compete in five Olympic shotgun events from the 10 through the 18 of September, trying to secure 10 Olympic quotas.

800 athletes coming from 92 countries arrived in Lonato, Italy, to participate in the 2015 ISSF Shotgun World Championship, which will assign 10 Olympic quota places in the five Olympic shotgun shooting events (men's and women's Trap, men's Double Trap, men's and women's Skeet).

The championship was officially opened today by the ISSF President Olegario Vazquez Raña at the Trap Concaverde shooting club of Lonato, at the presence of the ISSF Secretary General Franz Schreiber, of the ISSF Executive Committee and Administrative Council members, local authorities and representatives of the participating nations.

“Welcome to the ISSF Shotgun World Championship in Lonato!” The ISSF President Olegario Vazquez Raña said, speaking at the opening ceremony.

 

“I would like to congratulate FITAV, the Italian Shotgun Shooting Federation, for hosting this Championship, and to thank the FITAV's President Luciano Rossi for the great hospitality.”

 

“We are very happy to see so many athletes and officials here, today. We wish you all a successful competition!” The President concluded.

 

“I would like to welcome all athletes and officials here in Lonato. 800 shooter coming from 92 countries arrived here in Italy to compete in this event, setting a new record of participation for an ISSF Shotgun World Championship,” said the FITAV President and ISSF Vice-President Luciano Rossi.

 

“I would like to thank the ISSF President Olegario Vazquez Raña for all what he's doing for the shooting sport world, and the President of the Trap Concaverde shooting club Ivan Carella for the excellent work of the organizing committee.”

 

Williams's F1 driver Valtteri Bottas, arriving from the F1 GP in Monza, and the three-time canoe Olympic Champion Antonio Rossi, were among the special guests who shot a trap round at the opening ceremony, together with the FITAV President Luciano Rossi.

 

The first medals and Olympic quotas will be assigned at tomorrow's Trap Women event scheduled at 17:30. The Trap Women Junior final will follow at 18:30 (GMT+2).

 

On Saturday the 12th, the Trap Men and Trap Men Junior finals will be held at 17.15 and 18.15, respectively. Double Trap Men senior and junior shooters will compete on Monday the 14th, starting from 17:30, while the last events - the Skeet Men and Skeet Men Junior finals - are going to be held on Thursday the 17th.
