ISSF World Cup in New Delhi: Day 5 preview

Two more events are scheduled to take place on Day 5 at the Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range, where everyone will try to interrupt the hegemony of the Chinese Shooting team, who claimed 6 out of 6 Gold medals in the Rifle/Pistol disciplines so far.

The fifth competition day in New Delhi (IND) will develop around the Rifle/Pistol finals hall, as the 10m Air Pistol Men and 50m Rifle Prone Men events will award their first medals of the season.

 

10m Air Pistol Men

 

The Gold and Silver medalists of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, Vietnam’s Hoang Xuan Vinh and Brazil’s Felipe Wu, will headline the participants of the 10m Air Pistol Men.

 

Hoang and Wu, who also stand in the top two positions of the ISSF World Ranking in this event, will face a talented and apparently invincible Chinese team, looking for their seventh consecutive Gold medal in the Rifle/Pistol disciplines in New Delhi.

 

The three Chinese athletes competing in this event will be Pu Qifeng, a former Junior World Champion; Xu Zhanyi, appearing here for the first time in an international competition; and Yang Wei, whose best World Cup result in this event is a 23rd place in Munich (GER) in 2015.

 

Among the other contenders for a spot in the final, scheduled at 11:30 am (UTC+5:30), Japan’s former ISSF World Champion Tomoyuki Matsuda, and Kazakhstan’s Vladimir Issachenko, seeking for his country’s first medal in this competition.

 

The hopes of the Indian fans will mostly be placed on Jitu Rai, a two-time medalist during last year’s ISSF World Cup Series. The Indian, ranked 7th in the world, will bear his country’s flag with Amanpreet Singh and Omkar Singh.

 

50m Rifle Prone Men

 

Today’s program will conclude at 1:30 pm with final of the men’s 50m Rifle Prone event.

 

British shooter Kenneth Parr, currently ranked 12th in the world, will try to grab the first World Cup Gold medal of his career, after claiming a Silver at last year’s stage in Baku (AZE).

 

After participating in the 10m Air Rifle Men and 50m Rifle 3 Positions Men events in New Delhi, Hungary’s Peter Sidi will try to qualify for his third final match of the competition.

 

Indian multi-decorated shooters Gagan Narang and Sanjeev Rajput, will lead the Indian 

 

After collecting a Silver two days ago in the men’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions event, Switzerland’s Jan Lochbihler will also try to enter the final and best his previous best placement in an ISSF World Cup: an 11th place nailed in Rio de Janeiro (BRA) in 2016.

 

Gagan Narang and Sanjeev Rajput will lead the Indian challenge in this event, also including Sushil Ghalay, a former Asian Championship Bronze medalist.
