Korostylov, Sidhu and Leppa take gold on the final competition day in Changwon

Three non-Olympic events took place at the Changwon International Shooting Range, where the 52nd ISSF World Championship in all events closed today.

Ukraine’s Pavlo Korostylov, India’s Vijayveer Singh and Finland’s Aleksi Leppa climbed on the highest step of the podium in the three non-Olympic shooting events contested today in Changwon (KOR): 25m Standard Pistol Men, 25m Standard Pistol Men Junior.

 

The multi-decorated 21-year-old Ukrainian Pavlo Korostylov beat 2014 World Champion Kim Junhong, and won the gold in this world championship. The 16-year-old Indian VIjayveer Sidhu pocketed the gold medal in 25m Standard Pistol Men Junior event. The 24-year-old finlander Leppa pocked his first gold medal in his shooting career in Changwon (KOR).

 

25m Standard Pistol Men

 

21-year-old Pavlo Korostylov od Ukraine pocketed the gold medal in the 25m Standard Pistol Men event, signing off with 581 points and finishing ahead of silver medal winner Gurpreet Singh (30) of India, who totalized 579 points and bested Republic of Korea’s 28-year-old Kim Junhong, who concluded with the same exact score and a lower number of shots in the 10th ring: 19 against Singh’s 22.

 

On the team podium, France secured gold with the collective score of 1716 points, followed by the Republic of Korea and Ukraine, who respectively won silver with 1709 points and bronze with 1704.

 

300m Rifle 3 Positions Men

 

Finland’s 24-year-old Aleksi Leppa won his second gold medal of the competition in the 300m Rifle 3 Positions Men event, totalizing 1172 points in the three stages and prevailing over Hungary’s 21-year-old Istvan Peni by just 3 points. The Hungarian talent, in fact, scored 1169 points, taking silver and placing ahead of Switzerland’s 24-year-old Gilles Vincent Dufaux, who took 3rd place and scored 1167 points.

 

Austria secured the team gold medal with a collective score of 3469 points. Switzerland followed in 2nd place with 3461 and France placed 3rd with 3459.

 

25m Standard Pistol Men Junior

 

16-year-old Vijayveer Sidhu brough the Indian flag atop the 25m Standard Pistol Men Junior podium, claiming the brightest medal with 572 points.

 

Competing on his home turf, Republic of Korea’s 19-year-old Lee Gunhyeok placed in 2nd position, scoring 570 points and besting People’s Republic of China’s Zhu Haojie (16), who completed the podium in 3rd place and signed off with 565 points.

 

Totalizng 1695 points, India also won the team gold medal, while the Republic of Korea bagged the silver one with 1693 and the Czech Republic won bronze with 1674.

 

The 52nd ISSF World Championship in all events concluded today at the Changwon International Shooting Range in Changwon (KOR): 1806 athletes competed in 59 shooting sport events and four disciplines, representing 90 nations and piling up 3457 starts.
