“New Rapid Fire is a great step forward” Schreiber said

ISSF Grand Prix Rapid Fire Pistol · Munich, GER

The ISSF Secretary General Franz Schreiber positively evaluated the first Rapid Fire Pistol finals conducted with the new competition format at the ISSF Grand Prix in Munich.

“It has certainly been an exciting and dynamic competition!” The new ISSF Secretary General Franz Schreiber said right after the award ceremony of the ISSF 25m Rapid Fire Pistol Grand Prix in Munich, organized to test and to present the new competition format of the event, which has been adopted for the 2012 Games.

“This Grand Prix has proved that the new Rapid Fire competition format is working well. The ideas we have been developing through the past seasons are now coming into reality, and we received positive feedbacks.” Mr. Schreiber said.

“The coaches and the shooters we met here in Munich during this Grand Prix were all very positive about these changes – the ISSF Secretary General explained – there are a couple of minor issues which we might improved in the future, and we are working on that.”

The new format was developed together with the athletes, and in favour of the sport, as the new rules are designed to attract a wider TV coverage “Shooters and coaches play a determinant role inside the ISSF. The Federation is working for the athlete, and we need their expertise and their feedbacks. This is why we will keep working in close contact with them”.

The 25m Rapid Fire Pistol Men competition format was developed keeping in mind the spectators’ point of view. Quicker then the previous format, the new final is conducted with a “hit or miss” scoring system which makes the results immediately understandable to everybody. The new rules went into effect starting from the last 1st of January, and they will be adopted in the 2011 ISSF World Cup Series and at the 2012 Olympic Games.
