25m Standard Pistol Men and Junior Men report

Asian countries shone in the 25m Pistol Men and Junior Men competitions, securing both the titles and four out of six medals.

Korea’s Hong Seong Hwan is the new World Champion in 25m Standard Pistol Men’s event.  With a nearly perfect 150-second stage, Hong marked 197 points out of a possible 200.  He continued a pace of excellence as he shot for 577 total pointsto secure the brightest medal.  The silver medalist was China’s Yongde Jin who tied Julio Almeida of Brazil for 574 points and 16 center hits.  Jin claimed he silver medal as he bested Almeida with 48 shoot-off points to Almeida’s 41 points. 

The 25m Standard Pistol Men Junior event was a blow-out.  China’s Zhou Zhiguo, also the gold medalist of the 25m Rapid Fire Pistol Men Junior event, won the gold medal in Standard Pistol as well.  Zhou scored 567 total points--six points above the silver medalist Aaron Sauter.  Zhou’s strong 192 points in the 150-second phase and 191 points in the 20-second phase, propelled him ahead of the competition.  Sauter, of Germany, shot for 560 points and tied with Xuan Feng Long of China.  The two entered a shoot-off (even though Sauter marked more center hits), where Sauter shot for 48 additional points and Long fell to bronze with 44 points.
