ISSF Running Target World Championship yet to start in Sweden

The 2012 ISSF Running Target World Championship will kick-off this weekend. Athletes will arrive in Sweden tomorrow, while the Opening Ceremony will take place on Saturdays. First medals will be assigned on Sunday.

Only a few hours are left before the start of the 2012 ISSF Running Target World Championship in Sweden, where about 100 shooters coming from 19 different countries will compete from the 3rd through the 9th of June in the six Running Target events. Junior shooters will also have a chance to meet and compete against each other in six dedicated categories. Team events will also be scheduled.

 

The World Championship will take place in two different locations. From Sunday 3 June to Tuesday 5 June the 50-meter competitions will be held in Vasteras, while 10-meter events are scheduled to take place between Thursday 7 and Saturday 9 in Stockholm.

 

The Championship will reach its climax on the Sunday the 9th, when the 10-meter Running Target Medal Matches will take place in Stockholm, in the vicinity of the Stockholm Stadium – the oldest still active Olympic facility - and in the frame of the celebrations of the 100-year anniversary of the 1912 Stockholm Olympic Games. There, ISSF Running Target shooters will join the celebrations and more than 700 Swedish Olympic athletes from different generation participating in the event.

 

“This World Championship is an historic event due to the fact that it is taking place in concomitance of the 100 years anniversary of the 1912 Olympic Games in Stockholm. The ISSF Running Target World Championship is part of the official celebration events.” The ISSF Secretary General, Mr. Franz Schreiber, said.

 

“The ISSF is most grateful to the Organizing Committee for the wonderful job they have done. We are wishing to all athletes good luck and fair competitions and extend our wishes to the representatives of the mass media and to the spectators who will certainly enjoy exciting competitions and some beautiful days in one of the first Olympic Games locations – Stockholm.” Mr. Schreiber said.

 

The Opening Ceremony of the ISSF Running Target World Championship in Sweden will take place at the Vastmanlands Lans Museum, at 19.00 on Saturday the 2nd of June.

 

The first medals will be assigned at the 50m Running Target Mixed Men event taking place in Vasteras on Sunday the 3rd of June.

 

The closing events, the 10m Running Target Men and Women medal matches are taking place in Stockholm on Saturday the 9th of June starting from 14.30.
